Perris Indian School Information Added to Website

22-08-2011
Valuable information on the Perris Indian School has been added to the Perris Valley Museum Historical Archives website from documents provided by the Sherman Indian Museum in Riverside, California.
The Perris Valley Museum Historical Archives is proud to announce it now has information on its website pertaining to the Perris Indian School, identified as the first indian school in southern California.  This document was provided to the facility by Lorene Sisquoc of the Sherman Indian Museum in Riverside, California and digitized by archivist Christina Perris.

Under the document entitled "The Perris Indian School" located under the "History" portion of our webpage, you will find a brief write-up on the history of the school, followed by lists of the employees and pupils from 1892-93, the only known such lists in existence.  At the end of the document, you will also find two additional lists of student members of both the U.S. Indian Brass Band and the Indian Girls Mandolin and Guitar Club from July 18, 1901 - again, these are the only known existence of lists of this type.

For those viewers interested in looking over the lists alone, the lists have been isolated under the "Perris Indian School Resources" page under the "Digital Collections" portion of our website.

Both pages have also been placed under our "City Centennial" section to pay homage to another chapter of the city's rich and diverse history.
